The Chainsmokers started their career in 2012, and they made their mark in 2014 with their breakthrough single #Selfie. Despite the fact that the music industry is a difficult place to survive in, the duo consisting of Andrew Taggard and Alex Pall continues to release popular hits and be financially successful.
They recently made headlines after The Chainsmokers and Halsey announced on their Instagram accounts that the single for which they collaborated has been certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The single “Closer” was released in 2016, and became a massive success. The Chainsmokers had a handful of successful singles prior to the release, and have put out a handful of singles since, releasing their debut album “Memories…Do Not Open” and an EP entitled “Sick Boy”, but “Closer” proved to have great staying power and became their most successful tune and one of their most recognizable songs.
“Closer” has also been an important point in Halsey’s career, who reached a wider audience, proving herself to be a rising talent even before the release of the track. The song earned the 3 artists involved their first Grammy nomination, and also garnered a number of awards. In the two years since its release, the song moved more than 10 million units in the Untied Stated, earning the diamond status in 2018. In addition, the song is considered among the 4th longest running hits in the history of the United States.
The EDM-duo also made headlines when Forbes revealed their list of highest-paid DJs in the world in 2018, when The Chainsmokers was ranked at number 2, earning more than fellow musicians David Guetta, Diplo, and Steve Aoki. The duo had a 3-year deal with Wynn Nightlife, earning mid six figures checks for their performance, Forbes stating that there were more than 100. As a result, The Chainsmokers earned a total of $45.5 million in 2018, which is an improvement over 2017, when Forbes ranked them at number 3 after earning $38 million. The duo’s cofounder Alex Pall simply stated that he is curious to see what happens next.
